The Thousand Islands stretch for a considerable length along the St. Lawrence River, from its head at the outlet of Lake Ontario. The islands are an outcropping of the Frontenac Arch, a geological feature that connects the Canadian Shield to the Adirondack Dome. Besides the islands, Frontenac Arch outcrops appear in the valley as well, and help create the unique scenic landscapes of the area.
The Thousand Islands chapter includes 8 rides ranging from 20 miles to 70 miles in length. There are rides on both sides of the river, from historic Sackets Harbor on Lake Ontario down to Coles Creek.
